One of the assignments in my German 102 class this summer is to view three German-language movies (subtitles are okay). Having already seen
Goodbye, Lenin! (
blogged) and
Lola rennt, I'm forced to go a little outside the box for the assignment. The first movie I picked was
Das Experiment, a disturbing reimagining of the infamous
Stanford Prison Experiment that really gets to something dark and ugly at the heart of human nature. Needless to say, it's very good, and for much of the movie you'll hardly realize it's not in English.
Next up:
Der Untergang (The Downfall), about Hitler's last days. You'll recall that this was very
controversial last year when it came out. I'll let you know how things shake out.
