...is that rare gem, the successful comic book movie. It's actually one of the best comic book adaptations I've ever seen, which is particularly noteworthy because as I've said before I wasn't too impressed with the first one. But this one was up there with
X-Men 2 and the original
Batman. Definitely see it if you've ever liked the webslinger. (See the first one first, probably, because this series is very continuity-rich. I don't know how Jennifer made any sense of anything with just my two minute run-down for guidance.)
All the reading I did the other day on
Spiderman history also helped a bunch. I picked up a lot of things that I wouldn't have otherwise gotten.
This franchise could go a few more movies. It's got a lot of life left.
So who's up for the villain in
Spiderman 3?
1) Obviousy, the presence of Doc Connors in the movie suggests that
the Lizard will show up.
2) Although in the comic book, Venom is a different dude, you have to figure that John Jameson's going to be
Venom. He's an astronaut, for one, not to mention
Spoiler: he's got a reason to hate Peter, and
Spoiler: In that one scene, Dude jumps REALLY far. Plus, you know they want to work Venom in somehow, if only because they'd love to give him his own spinoff.
3)
Major Spoiler, don't highlight and don't read unless you've seen the movie:
They're obviously pointing at Green Goblin II for Harry. That surprise scene with Norman rocked, and having just read all about the Clone Saga, I was pretty excited by the possibility that Norman Osborn might not really be dead (just like in the comics), and still am.
4) Duh,
spoiler: And of course Doc Oc's still out there.
Great movie. I'd see it again.
UPDATE: Well, okay, the movie does at least one pretty substantial flaw, right at its climax.
One last spoiler: "There IS no way to stop it, Peter! Unless we get it wet. Yeah. That'll stop it." That was dopey. Congratulations,
X-Men 2, you're still the tops, Amy.
