Check out
nationstates.net, a five-minute-a-day "Rule Your Own Nation" game.
My nation?
Canavania, of course.
The Republic of Canavania is a tiny, safe nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 5 million are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
The government -- a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, socially-minded morass -- is mainly concerned with Social Welfare, although Healthcare and Education are on the agenda. The average income tax rate is 44%, but much higher for the wealthy. A small private sector is led by the Cheese Exports industry, followed by Gambling and Information Technology.
Crime is well under control. Canavania's national animal is the monkey, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the gerry.
UPDATE: I have no idea if this game is any good. It looks, just poking around, like it might already be in a USENETlike death spiral. We'll see.
