To be honest I was sort of underwhelmed by this year's
Best American Short Stories anthology as well. The stories weren't bad, merely generic, and I found myself doing a lot of page-flipping. Worse, the stories that stuck with me the most were ones from well-known authors writing in the
New Yorker:
Tobias Wolff and
Aleksander Hemon.
