The most elegant and moving novel of 2003, Jhumpa Lahiri's The Namesake, is being made into a feature film directed by Mira Nair (Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair). The comely author appears in the film as an extra. According to this interview
, Nair really got the novel, and the rough cut of the film does justice to what Lahiri was going for.
