An article in
New York Press on
the Brad Vice/Univ. of Georgia Press scandal previously blogged here. This article provides some specific examples of Vice's borrowing, and I have to say, it makes him look a whole lot worse than the previous
StorySouth profiles did.
Vice: "And that's how it began. Three distant notes, high blasts on a bugle, then a drop of a minor third on a long wailing note."
Carmer: "We heard them coming long before we saw them — three distant high blasts of a bugle, then a drop of a minor third on a long wailing note."
The author also claims to have found plagiarism in
another story from the collection. Interestingly, both of these stories were in Vice's PhD dissertation from the University of Cincinnati, which is now apparently being investigated by an ethics board there.
This is a real tough piece. Like a brick to the temple. I almost hesitate to link to it at all, because it really feels like piling on -- but it's a very interesting situation, and it's all become so public I don't think I'm doing the man any additional harm by noting it. (
