Wikipedia's list of cognitive biases. Bandwagoning is probably the most pernicious, followed closely by the
previously blogged just-world phenomenon, but you can't count out
confirmation bias,
wishful thinking, and the
gambler's fallacy either -- not to mention the
dreaded Zeigarnik effect. Just this weekend my father and I had a very lengthy and rather unenlightening political exchange over precisely which one of us was suffering from
belief perseverance.
