It was really only a year ago today that our country asked, as if with one voice, "Thank you, sir, may I have another?"
I woke up that morning
cautiously optimistic, even hopeful, about a Kerry win. Then all the exit polls told me he was going to win, and I was
absolutely convinced. We had it. Bush was toast.
But it turned out the exit polls were wrong for the first time ever! And we'd actually
lost by a little over a hundred thousand votes in Ohio! Ha! How 'bout that?
Sure, we laugh now -- but at the time, it was actually really
depressing.
Three years and change to go.
