Bookslut links to this interesting but misguided
Salon interview with Michael Ruse, who argues (incorrectly, in my opinion) that creationism and 'evolutionism' are two sides of the same coin.
In essence, Ruse believes that fundamentalist evolutionists like Dawkins and W.D. Hamilton hold similar beliefs to fundamentalist creationists -- both sides would agree that Darwinism is a "dark theology" that removes ultimate meaning and purpose from the universe and augurs the death of God.
This is, sadly, nonsense. Evolution and evolutionism, whatever that means, make no claim whatsoever about the existence or nonexistence of God. All evolution does is explain the diversity of life on this planet without making reference to God.
That some -- not all, but a minority of a minority of -- religious people feel threatened by this is
their problem, not evolution's.
