When Casey, PCEgan, and Nick Hornby all agree you should read something, you probably should. I enjoyed
Train a lot, though I felt the lightness of the middle third hurt the novel as a whole. There's a long stretch of wheel-spinning where nothing much seems to be happening plotwise (though, in fairness, some work is being done thematically). The ending isn't quite good enough to make up for it. But if the the premise -- the story of a black golf prodigy/caddy in racist 1950s California-- intrigues you, you'd be well-advised to
pick it up.
