In 1960, James Kittinger
survived an open-air parachute jump from 102,800 feet (basically
the edge of outer space really high up. See Neil's bitching in the
comments. My point was that he couldn't have survived much higher in the open air.). Hero or lunatic? Only the US Centennial of Flight Commission knows for sure.
