I think the things I can’t do—throw left handed, crack an egg one handed, expel cynicism from my world view—are the things that impress me the most. Thus, Napoleon Dynamite’s choreographed dance celebration bowled my ass over. From an entirely different angle comes Rize, a documentary on the krumping and clowning
phenomenon that is an alternative to the bangers of LA. The only song I recognized was "Fix Up, Look Sharp" by Dizzee Rascal
. But the music slides to the background anyway. There’s too much to watch, too many flailing limbs, throbbing bums (the ass kind), and wild flips. Of course, there is some tragedy to anchor the movie emotionally. But Rize works on every level, especially if you’re into watching extraordinary dancing.
